Social anxiety

Humans are hard-wired to connect with each other, but for some people, the social world is daunting. More than 1 in 10 Americans have Social Anxiety Disorder—a chronic disorder characterized by excessive concern about being scrutinized and rejected by others.

Our research explores the daily situations that worsen social anxiety and the coping strategies that help people navigate an increasingly social world.

Coping with stress

Our lab uses smartphone technologies to capture emotions as they unfold in real time. We use this data to identify different patterns of emotions and effective ways of coping with daily stressors.
